For the last of the responses for Emily Dickinson, I ended up doing the poem imitation option. For someone who is highly critical of their own work, I actually really enjoyed what I had done and wanted to sort of shamelessly show it off.

We are Judges seeking Refuge-

These convictions turn us

“For the Lord is ever with Me-”

We tell ourselves in Jest.

Wise devotion without council

These little trinket Lives-

Yet they faulter – facing justice –

The sentence for our crimes.

The poem kind of touches on the blatant discrepancies and issues within the judicial system with often times disproportionally high sentencing in what seems like the toying with of lives. It seems like many decisions in sentencing are made with the idea that God is behind such decisions, regardless of the evidence to the contrary.
